If you have ever needed a rental car, you may have noticed that some companies offer you the chance to have car insurance with it. However, most people simply look baffled at the offer and decline politely as they think “why on earth would I want car insurance for a hire car?” Well, it turns out that car insurance could actually be quite helpful whilst you are hiring out a car so it just might be worth taking out that insurance cover!
Why Get Car Insurance For Hire Cars?
When wondering whether or not to get car insurance for your hire car, just think – accidents do not only occur when you are driving your own car. Accidents can occur at any time and at any place for whatever reason and if you have not got car insurance you could end up in serious trouble. For one thing, the car that you are driving will not be your own and that means that you will most likely have to pay for all damages that the car incurs whilst you were driving. That also means that you cannot claim off your existing car insurance as that is only for your usual car and not for anything else you might drive. As well as the high costs which you will receive, you may also face a court case if anybody decides to sue you. For example, what if you ran down a pedestrian whilst you had no insurance? Any injuries which they received would be down to you and seem as though you were driving around unprotected, it could very well end up in court with you being sued for driving without insurance. So, it is always better to be safe than sorry! How Do I Get Insurance For a Hire Car? Usually the company which you are hiring the car from will ask you if you want insurance, but if they don’t you may request it. Ask them if they offer the cover as some companies actually might not offer any at all. However, most companies do offer it and so it really shouldn’t be hard to find one which does. As for the prices you will pay, it should not be too much but it all depends upon the length of time which you will be using the hire car for. If for example, you are hiring the car out for two weeks, it will obviously cost you more on insurance than it would if you were only hiring for a week. Overall it is always better to get car insurance for a hire car, no matter how long you are going to be driving it for. That way, you have a peace of mind that you are protected and if anything does go wrong, you will not be in as big of a mess as you would be without any insurance. |
