Wireless Video Surveillance Cameras Print E-mail
Tuesday, 07 August 2007
Many people have decided on using wireless video surveillance cameras.  Wireless video surveillance is basically the same as using a normal camera setup except your cameras transmit the signal via WiFi or a predetermined channel directly to your recording devices.  There are advantages and disadvantages to using wireless video surveillance however. There are many advantages to using a wireless video surveillance system.  You don't have to drill holes and run wires around which can make your cameras fairly easy to spot.

With a wireless video surveillance system, you can mount a camera almost anywhere without having to worry about plugs and connections.  Many outdoor businesses use solar power to run their wireless cameras so that even eliminates the need to charge or change batteries.  Wireless video surveillance cameras can be very small so you can discretely put them in all types of places a traditional camera could not go.  A teddy bear cam is a great example.  People put a camera into a teddy bear and leave it in a strategic spot and use it to keep an eye on nannies to make sure they aren't mistreating children.

A disadvantage of a wireless video surveillance camera is that it runs on batteries.  No batteries last forever so you will have to change them occasionally.  Luckily, batteries have reached a point where they last quite a while and the charge to operate the camera is very small.

There are many different types of wireless video surveillance cameras.  They can be large like a camera you would see at a bank, or so small the lens is barely bigger than the tip of a pen.  Some wireless cameras allow you to scan an area however you like using a remote or PC.  They can be set up to only activate when they detect movement or just stay running at specified times.
