How to Connect Your DVD Player to Your Car Stereo Print E-mail
Thursday, 16 August 2007
Portable DVD players have become the rage among electronics enthusiasts, allowing them to take their favorite movies with them wherever they go. These portable devices can be used to watch movies in vehicles, hotel rooms, restaurants and libraries (assuming that you have taken the time to purchase headphones of course). Their ease of use and portability have made them a favorite among travelers everywhere. What is the down side of purchasing a car DVD player? After all, there are so many good things to say about them that there must be a down side, right?

There are a few. Like portable CD players a portable DVD player is very delicate, and it does not take much turbulence on the part of the vehicle to cause the movie to skip and freeze. The battery life of these devices is generally quite short, making it difficult to get through a full movie unless you have some means of connecting it to an electrical source. The screens of most of these devices are very small, and due to the fact that they employ a flat screen as well it is almost impossible for anyone sitting any distance away to have a good view of the action taking place.

The most common complaint is that the speakers do not generate sufficient sound for the movie in question to be heard unless the DVD player is sitting directly on the lap of the viewer. The average speakers incorporated into a portable DVD player are simply too quiet to be heard over top of the noise of the average car engine.

Fortunately, there is a solution to this. Many companies have begun developing car radios with an auxiliary input source which will allow the driver to incorporate their DVD player into the car’s speaker system. This means that while the screen will still be small and the move prone to skipping about with every bump it will be possible to hear the movie throughout the entire vehicle via the car’s built in speaker system; a vast improvement over the small, tinny speakers that were previously the only available option.
