The art of collecting NFL sports memorabilia is practiced by football fans across the globe. These items are purchased for a variety of reasons, for business, for pleasure and, for many serious investors, for profit. The question is, what items will bring in the greatest amount of profit to justify the amount of money that is spent on them? Sometimes fans get lucky; their collection will be started by a chance encounter on a street or a ball caught in the heat of the moment. For serious collectors, however, it is usually an art of searching across the globe for rare items and then paying an astronomical price for them.
There are certain items of sports memorabilia that are highly desired by collectors, and as such it is these items that investors should seek out. What are these items, and how can they be found? The how is very simple. These items can be purchased at auction or through a private collector. It is also possible to purchase an item, such as a team jersey or game ball, and then have it signed by either an individual athlete or a team. The key when investing in NFL sports memorabilia is to remember that anything that has been signed or used in an actual NFL event (a game jersey that has been worn by the athlete, a football that has seen some field time and been retired, etc) is worth a great deal more than items that are simply purchased and then resold. It is also important to remember that certain items are going to appreciate with age. While a football with the signatures of all of the players of a team that has not had a very victorious season is not going to be worth a great deal now, in another ten or fifteen years this ball will be able to be sold for a great profit margin. NFL sports memorabilia can be a great money maker for the motivated investor; the key is knowing where to look. |
