The Plus Size Tennis Apparel Print E-mail
Friday, 24 August 2007
The first Wimbledon singles tennis events in 1884 displayed modest women’s tennis apparel.  Women wore long dresses with full-length flannel skirts to the ankles, long sleeves, high necklines with a collar and a neck-tie. Those modest outfits can not come close to comparing with the short hemlines and daring, skimpy tennis apparel worn by today’s tennis stars like Serena and Venus Williams. Modesty has gone out the window!  What about modesty (without losing sight of trendy fashion) that is desired in plus size tennis apparel?

The plus-size woman may find it difficult to wear such skimpy, revealing tennis apparel. By creating fashionable plus size tennis apparel, today’s designers of women’s tennis apparel are making it easier for larger women to maintain a little modesty while enjoying their favorite action-filled sport.

Plus size tennis apparel is modest, comfortable, fashionable and attractive with skorts, shorts, tops, and A-line or straight-line stretchy, lycra skirts that are available in solid colors and fashionable flower designs.

Beginning at size 14W, skirts, skorts and shorts in plus size tennis apparel are at a sensible, attractive height above the knee that shows just enough leg (but not too much)  while allowing for comfort and ease of movement.  The straighter lines and A-lines of the skirts and skorts in women’s plus size tennis apparel hug and fit the form just enough to slim and flatter the plus size woman’s figure.

Polyester-blend skirts and skorts in plus size tennis apparel are stretchy and include pockets for the tennis balls and have built-in shorts.   Plus size tennis apparel includes mix and/or match tops also of comfortable and great looking polyester blends.  The styles are flattering as well as stretchy enough to move with the body of an active woman who needs freedom of movement in order to be at her peak performance for her game.

Plus size tennis apparel can be found in sporting goods stores or department stores, but choices may be limited since some stores tend keep more choices available in average sizes up to size 12 or 14.  However, there are many on-line sporting goods stores and tennis clothing and supply stores that carry plus size tennis apparel.

Retailers and on-line merchants offer some great, attractive plus size tennis apparel that is also appropriate for wear in other women’s sports.  They also carry plus size tennis apparel for teams, sometimes offering team discounts.

There are many small specialty tennis apparel manufacturers and online retailers these days that offer plus sized tennis apparel - with some style! Check out Singles Custom Apparel, FortyLoveTennis, and I think AdInTennis has plus sizes too.
We at Court 1 Tennis are hoping to add plus sizes to our line soon. For those non-plus looking for some fashion in their tennis skirts, check out www.court1tennis.net
