The Advantages of a Pole Bird Feeder Print E-mail
Friday, 13 July 2007
When buying a bird feeder for the first time, it can be difficult to know exactly what to buy. You may find the need to try several different types before actually finding the perfect one to use in your garden. For some a tube bird feeder might be the right choice, especially if they’re interested in attracting tiny birds. For others a hopper feeder or house feeder might work well, particularly if they don’t have a big lot of time to spend fooling with cleaning it and refilling it.

While some people may like the platform bird feeder because it’s accessible to all sorts of birds. However, whichever type of feeder you choose, a pole bird feeder would surely be a good idea. Either of the various types of bird feeders can be installed on a pole to make a pole bird feeder.

What advantages does a pole bird feeder offer? The utmost advantage is prevention. Using a pole bird feeder can prevent squirrels and raccoons from gaining access to the feeder and the seed. These two little pests can certainly damage any bird feeder and of course make away with the bird feed. If a pole bird feeder is high enough and placed away from any possible jumping points, it’s unlikely a squirrel or any pesky animal will be able to access it. A pole bird feeder, placed in an open area, away from the house will also prevent seed from being scattered everywhere. Instead of messing up the patio, window sill or walkway, the bird seed will be scattered over the grass where the birds can also find it.

To learn more about bird feeders such as a pole bird feeder, obtaining a gardening magazine or a book specifically about birds would certainly help. The Internet is also a great source of information about different types of birds such as those which tend to flock around domestic areas. These sites will no doubt offer advice about the various types of bird feeders on the market today including the pole bird feeder.
