How To Make Potpourri Right In Your Own Home Print E-mail
Tuesday, 01 May 2007
When you are looking how to make potpourri in your home there are many possible recipes to use. You will first want to choose from your favorite scents and find out which herbs, flowers, spices, and oils that will work well together. It is best to find a specific recipe to follow and stick with it. Here are some simple and popular potpourri recipes to help you get started on making scents at home and for less.

Rose Potpourri Blend

When making the rose potpourri you will want to use rose petals and buds, the yellow pansies, purple statice, red pepper berries, and myrtle mixed with the essential oil rose and the fixative orris root. Make sure to use 2 cups of the orris root for every 2 cups of the dried ingredients. Only moisten your orris root with the rose oil. There is no need to saturate this mixture.

Strawberry Potpourri Blend

The dry ingredients for this potpourri blend are rose petals and rose hips with white gomphrena and myrtle. You will mix the strawberry essential oil with the orris root fixative and then add to the dry ingredients. Always remember 2 cups of fixative to 2 cups dry, then add the oil till moist. This is a great all season fragrance.

Spice Potpourri Blend

This is a great fall and holiday blend that uses cockscomb, myrtle, orange rind, juniper berries, yellow static, and hibiscus mixed in a calamus root fixative moistened with cinnamon oil. Use the same faithful 2 to 2 cup ratios for a perfect blend.

Lavender Potpourri Blend

Lavender is one of the most popular scents on the market. It is great to create a relaxing atmosphere in your home. You will use an oak moss fixative and lavender essential oils. Then add the even ratio of lavender, rosebuds, myrtle, and blue static.

With all of your potpourri mixtures you will want to put them in a sealed plastic bowl and gently shake each day for 14 days. Make sure to store in a cool, dry location.
