Everyone needs support at one time or another. When you want support you want to be confident in your choices. This is especially true for your hammock. Hammock stands are the answer to your need for support. Not only do hammocks come in a variety of colors and sizes, the hammock stand does also. When choosing a hammock stand for your new outdoor bedding there are numerous options available. The first consideration, which may be obvious, is whether or not your hammock uses a spreader bar. A spreader bar is the rod (be it wooden or other manmade type) that keeps your hammock spread out. Either way your options are plentiful in terms of craftsmanship and design.
Keeping the following in mind, may help you make an informed decision:As previously stated, the options are plentiful. A lower end hammock stand could be assembled in as little as ten minutes. This type is metallic with a durable powder-coat finish. The advantage of this is having multiple color options. The powder-coat finish makes it both appealing and weather-resistant. When considering the metallic variety, consider the gauge of steel used: the higher the number, the less durable and likely to bend. Conversely, the lower the number the more durable. The preferred steel is 12 gauge steel for your hammock stand. There are also hammock stands made of wood. One of the most popular variety is that made of Cypress. The advantage to Cypress wood is that it is heavy and solid and water resistant. When considering Cypress, keep in mind that it naturally ages to a silvery grey color. Placement of this hammock stand is a consideration as shade is conducive to moisture. Because of it’s natural oil, Cypress is water resistant. Constant exposure to moisture will prove to be detrimental. Applying a coat of linseed oil annually will help preserve it along with placement in direct sunlight. In the end, as in the choice of hammock style, the choice is yours. |
