School’s back in session and the weather is just starting to cool enough to hold outside events its time for a Halloween fundraiser. Halloween is not as popular a fundraising holiday as Christmas but because of the uniqueness of the holiday it affords some great fundraising opportunities not available for other holidays. The fundraising group can generate funds in the weeks before Halloween selling "Goblin,” “Zombie,” or “Trick” insurance. The idea is simple. All the fundraising group needs is a computer, some paper, a copy machine, and volunteers. The fundraising group decides what type of insurance and designs the “policy” and volunteers then canvas homes and businesses.
The fundraising group charges a reasonable fee per residence policy and a slightly higher fee per business policy. The fundraising group promises to clean up any Halloween mess – except vandalism- when the policy holder calls. Generally, people love idea and eagerly donate but rarely call in the policy. So effectively the fundraising group has mad money from selling the policy but should be prepared to clean some yards. The groups’ expense will usually be the cost of some printer ink, a ream of paper, and maybe some trash bags.Trick or treat for the cause. Another simple idea that requires very little overhead, some planning, and some trustworthy volunteers but has great success is the “trick or treat” fundraiser. The fundraising group gets together and decorates small bags or boxes then the kids are trick and treating adult and teenage volunteers can “trick or treat” for loose change. It is surprising how quickly the pocket change will add up as most people will donate with a group of kids all dressed up standing in front of them. The pumpkin decorating contest is always a Halloween staple and a great way to generate funds. Talk to a local produce grower or the local supermarket about purchasing a supply of pumpkins which contest entrants purchase to decorate. Display the pumpkins with containers allowing people to use their spare change to vote for the best decorated pumpkin. Happy Halloween and Great Fundraising. |
