Economic Gardening and How To Do It Print E-mail
Sunday, 13 January 2008
One way to save money on gardening is to grow you own flowers and plants. The seed packs you buy can cost anywhere for sixty cents to a couple dollars. One package of seeds will produce about twenty to thirty plants. If you use your own compose you will save money on fertilizing. Economic gardening is the only way to save money on your garden and still have the look you want. You can make a greenhouse outside for starting seeds or you can start them in a basement with a grow light. The plants do need to be started early enough to be able to transplant into the garden area.

Economic gardening using a greenhouse outside can be as simple as using plastic sheeting or some glass panels. As you set up the greenhouse, you must keep in mind the temperature and how you will keep the greenhouse warm. Many people choose to use a solar panel to collect energy from the sun to heat the greenhouse. This is another way to save money on gardening. The greenhouse will also retain moisture from the sun during the day, which helps plants grow stronger and faster.

In the basement, you can use a box with a glass top and a grow light to make a green house. This works well for almost all plants. If you have a window that has enough room, you can make a miniature greenhouse in a window. This works well in a sunny window. Many stores carry window styled greenhouses for economic gardening or you can easily make your own. This is a great way to grow your herbs all year long as well. By growing your own herbs year round, you will save hundreds of dollars.

As the seedlings grow in the greenhouse, you can transplant them to larger pots and keep them healthy until the planting season begins. By doing this, you are going to find that you are saving money and time. If you start your tomato plants this way, you may even have tomatoes before anyone else. These plants can be grown in five-gallon pails so you have tomatoes earlier and longer during the year. Economic gardening is the only way to save money and have a beautiful garden at the same time.
