First and foremost, you like your driver’s license. Everyone does. Remember the freedom you felt the first time you could hop behind the wheel of your car and cruise of into the sunset? Go where you wanted to go and do what you wanted to do without having to go appeal to Mom and Dad first? Imagine losing that freedom. The first thing that the state of Nevada is going to do to anyone caught driving under the influence is take away their driving privileges, whether they are from in state or out of state.
It’s expensive to pay for an attorney to help get you out of the legal mess that you will be in if you are caught driving under the influence. A humorist said it all: Why don’t sharks eat lawyers? Professional courtesy. Lawyers are very expensive to obtain, and by the time your case in finished you may find yourself hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt to your attorney alone. It’s expensive to have to pay for the repairs on your car and your medical bills should you be involved in an accident. It doesn’t matter whether you were responsible for the accident or not, if you find yourself caught driving under the influence and there is any question of which party carries responsibility you will have an awfully hard time convincing a judge it wasn’t you. In the meantime, unless you want to vehicle-less for an extended period of time you are going to have to pay to get it up and running, and the prices are not getting any a cheaper. It’s expensive to have to pay for the increase in your insurance rates following a DUI conviction. Every insurance company in the world is going to raise your rates if you are convicted of driving under the influence, and face it-insurance probably wasn’t exactly cheap to begin with. It is also possible that your insurance company will drop you all together, leaving you to seek insurance coverage from a high risk insurance carrier. Their prices are somewhat akin to the cost of feeding a small developing nation, and definitely not something to be desired. It’s expensive, period. After all of the above costs are taken care of there will be fines and court costs to be paid. The cost of a DUI fine in the state of Nevada is never less than four hundred dollars, and that is dependent upon the circumstances. Fines for a multiple offender can be in excess of four thousand dollars. The inside of a jail cell is not where you want to spend your vacation. Regardless of whether it is your first offense or your fiftieth the state of Nevada will require you to complete some jail time, although in certain circumstances this may be waived in favor of an extended period of community service. This will not always be the case, however, and prison food is just not up to the standards of the average connoisseur; in fact, it’s often not up to the standards of the average street rat. It’s humiliating. Who wants to have to look their family and friends in the eye and confess that they were busted for driving under the influence in Las Vegas? All in all, the cost of a DUI in Vegas is too high for an evening’s entertainment. |
