Water Filters for Home Print E-mail
Tuesday, 01 May 2007
Water filters for home come in a variety of shape and sizes. Two things must be kept in mind while buying water filters for home. The first is the scope of filtration and the second is the ease of installation.  There are water filters that just remove the sediment and odor while there are others that also remove micro organisms and even small particles.

Some of the water filters that can be installed at home are:

1. Whole house filters: These water filters are attached to the main water line entering the home. They remove sediment and rust particles from the water at the entry point itself. However, the filtration is very basic. In fact they work more like a pre-filter.

2. Undersink filters: These filters come in a wide range. Some just improve the taste of the water and remove odor; others also remove lead, bacteria and sediment. Since these units have multiple cartridges, each designed to filter a particular type of contaminant, the filtration is of high quality.

The undersink filters are convenient because, once installed, they do not need any further handling. Every time you turn on the tap, the filtered water comes straight from the faucet. Their biggest advantage is that they don’t block space in the kitchen. They can be mounted beneath the sink leaving the counter tops free for kitchen work.

3. Faucet-mounted filters: These filters connect directly to the faucet and need no plumbing.  They are usually very basic filters and are suitable for removing odor, and in some cases lead and cyst. They are small and very easy to install and remove; they filter the water at the point of use. The flip side is that they are a highly visible attachment to the faucet and provide only limited filtration.

4. Countertop or Canisters filters: These are the simplest water filters available; they are placed on the counter and filled with water. The water is cleaned by a filter candle which is fixed inside the tank. Some of these filters have the option of being connected to a water source.  However, filtration is only basic in these filters though the ease of use is enormous.
