People who live with herpes have many resources out there to ensure they can have an active social life with many like-minded people who are also living with herpes. Just about every major city across the country all have some kind of social group that hold weekly, monthly, and annual get togethers so that those who are living with herpes can get out and network among the city’s population that are also living with herpes. They go by some unique and colorful names like H Factor or the name of the city and H Factor after that.
It’s not just limited to heterosexuals it’s also extended to gays, lesbians, transgendered, and bisexuals. Many of the social outlets may consist of dinner parties at a restaurant or mixers for those with herpes can mingle with other singles like them to be able to meet someone and not fall in fear of automatic rejection due to their health status. Many are afraid to socialize because of the constant fear of someone rejecting them and ostracizing them for their herpes status. This is why many organizations that are geared towards assisting those who are living with herpes to be able to feel comfortable and safe in an environment where they won’t feel as if someone will push them aside because of their health status. The problem with the world today is that many people who are living with herpes is the increased level of ignorance from people who are not educated enough to know how herpes is transmitted and what are the risk factors for getting this disease. This is where the degree of difficulty comes when you are faced with everyday challenges and the bigotry and prejudices of the world against someone who may have fallen into unfortunate circumstances through lifestyle or situation, but still fight everyday for the ability to press on and live life. It seems as if those who are unfortunate circumstances are the ones who help those who live with herpes to be able to have a big positive outlook on life when it gets someone down because having an incurable viral infection such as herpes can get someone down and it can kill someone’s spirit because they feel they won’t be normal again. That’s why having an active social outlet for people with herpes gives them a chance to feel normal for that one moment instead of feeling like the lowest point in the world. |
