Sleep deprivation coincides with clinical depression as the hippocampus and the pituitary glands are involved. The involvement of the two segments of the brain are related to abnormal rapid eye movement which is pivotal in normal sleep. The treatment of clinical depression includes getting a physical exam to ascertain if there were any physical symptoms associated with the depression. If nothing can be determined by your physician, then he or she may advocate referring the patient to a psychiatrist or a psychologist. Another venue upon diagnosis is medication.
