The staff of Chicago Prostate Cancer Center uses state of the art equipment and is trained exclusively to utilize the permanent radioactive seed implant or brachytherapy. Currently around 100 patients are implanted each month. Out of 10,000 patients 8,000 have been treated by brachytherapy. The average length of this procedure is 35 minutes. When you go for your procedure you should expect to be at the center for 3 to 4 hours. You will spend about 30 minutes in the pre-op area. The actual procedure will take about an hour. After the procedure you will spend one to two hours in the recovery area. The seeds are designed to stay in the prostate permanently.
