Today alone, nearly 5,500 Africans will die from AIDS. This staggering statistic equates to more than 2 million deaths each year. Bono, lead singer for the Irish band, U2; and Bobby Shriver, Chairman of DATA, a foundation to alleviate AIDS and poverty in Africa; have joined forces to bring awareness about this tragic epidemic. (BLOG)RED, is a blog that shares information about (RED); a unique marketing program that is helping to provide anti-retroviral medicines to people in Africa who have HIV and AIDS.
Bono and Shriver have teamed up with some of the world's leading manufacturers to create an entire line of (RED) products. Some of the manufacturers who have joined (RED) include American Express, Motorola, The Gap, Converse, Apple, and the legendary fashion designer, Armani. These companies have agreed to manufacture and market (RED) products and donate up to fifty percent of the profit to The Global Fund. The Global Fund then uses the donated funds to provide AIDS and HIV-fighting drugs to people in Africa. (BLOG)RED has been spreading the word about AIDS in Africa since May 2006. (BLOG)RED is a collection of heartwarming stories and incredible photos. It provides a timeline of how (RED) products are making a difference in the lives of thousands of men, women and children in Africa. It's a beautiful thing!
