Schools are always looking for fundraising activities and Homecoming is a great time to elicit support from the community and the alumni. Schools also generally have a good number of volunteers but few funds. Here are three inexpensive ideas for cheerleaders, student council, or any school club that require a little prep time, some enthusiastic volunteers, and a little planning for a nice fundraising experience:
The Spirit Chain Fundraiser is a wonderful fundraiser for high school students because it is inexpensive but has the potential to raise lots of money. Generate competition within the different classes in the school to see who has the most school spirit to be revealed at a homecoming event – bonfire, pep rally, or even the game. Each class has one or two colors that make up the links of the spirit chain. The links are simple lengths of construction paper that are cut and sold. A good price for the links is around 25 or 50 cents. Reveal the length of the spirit chains at the designated event announcing the winning class. The winner should be designated by number of lengths and the principal might be convinced to award them some special prize like special seating at the homecoming game. The only thing you have to pay for is the paper, staples, and trustworthy volunteers. The Face Painting Fundraiser is another great homecoming fundraiser that cost little and encourages school spirit. Choose school colors in skin safe paint and set up tables at all the homecoming events. Come up with a variety of designs and charge for each design. The Free Topless Car Wash Fundraiser might take some explaining to get approval but once it becomes obvious that the idea is just a play on words it shouldn’t be a problem. The Free Topless Car Wash works just like a standard fundraising car wash but the real draw comes from the advertisement. Advertise the fundraiser as a “Topless” car wash and if possible place the car washers out of site. People will be drawn in out of curiosity! When the driver pulls into the wash area then they find out what is really meant by a "Topless" car wash. The bottom of the car, under the windows, is washed free but a donation is required if they want the car washed above the windows. Keeping the price reasonable and mention the cause will have most people readily agreeing to pay donate. |
