Government Grant Scams Print E-mail
Thursday, 09 August 2007
Some people will tell you that the government hands out money right and left, free money for the taking. Beware of those who pass on that information to you because it’s a scam. The United States government does not just pass out free money to anyone. While millions of government grant scams seem to appear daily out of the blue, take heed when anyone asks for your personal information and promises that the government will fill your bank account with cash because it’s not going to happen.

Scammers will call you on your house phone or your cell phone representing themselves as someone who works for the US government and has to just verify a few things before you can receive your government grants money which is usually claimed to be thousands and thousands of dollars. They may even go as far as to offer you a website to visit for more information but they will never give you a call back number. Remember the old saying, “If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is”.

Some scammers will even go as far as to ask for a deposit of a couple of hundred dollars in return for a shallow promise of thousands of dollars in return in government grants. A lot of these scammers will have a deep Indian accent but will identify themselves with very common American names like Michael or Sue. They most commonly want your bank information, especially your account number in order to receive the “free government grants”.

No one will ever call from the United States government claiming that they have free grants money for you. Government grants never require a processing fee of any kind. Government grants do however require an application process. Government grants are also given out for a specific purpose, not just because you have been a good citizen.

There are similar United States government grants scams that are sent via email also stating that you are eligible and have been hand selected to receive one for a small fee. They will ask that the upfront fee be paid by an online check or credit card. Theses are not secured and basically you may have just as well handed your bank information over to them.
