The United States federal government offers grants to low income families that qualify. These government grants are used for housing repairs in order to make their homes safe and no longer hazardous to the family or the community. However, grant funds are only available to homeowners aged 62 or older who cannot repay a loan program that is available for senior citizens. This includes repairs or replacement of anything that is decaying in the home such as roofs plumbing or weatherization.
The money cannot be used for any luxuries; this must be repairs that are necessary to make the home safe or livable, such as adding a deck or upgrading the kitchen, but rather must be repairs that are necessary for the safety or health of the homeowner, such as renovations to accommodate a wheelchair, or upgrades to the home's electrical wiring. There is also a maximum lifetime grant assistance amount that cannot be exceeded and the candidate must live in a rural area. The federal government also offers a type of assistance in the form of HUD grants. These grants are to be used for low income people and have made millions of dollars available to help fulfill the government’s goal of ending chronic homelessness among persons with disabilities. Government grants have been made available for people with disabilities who are homeless to seek employment, permanent housing, and allowing them to become self-sufficient. The United States Federal Government released millions of dollars in federal housing grants. In an attempt to make it easier for people with low credit ratings to be able to get low interest homes, the government has eased the credit requirements. The government has joined together with banks and is making an attempt to improve the sagging economy. The government is not going to finance your dream vacation or your dream home. Grant money is designated for improvements that are necessary for safety, not for the purpose of luxury. The federal government offers these grants for distressed people so that they can have a break, an opportunity to make a difference in their lives and the community itself. |
