If you’re dreaming of a casting call for film greatness, you need to be prepared when opportunity knocks. Hollywood rarely gives people a second chance. Here’s how to make the most of every casting call for film roles: * Leave your pride at the door: Focus on the job you’re doing, and never on yourself. Look at any truly accomplished actor. Not just popular actors—you can get your 15 minutes of fame and still be a mediocre actor. Look at the actors who make you stop and say, “She’s a master of her craft.”
They all have one quality in common—their humility. All great actors have a sense of enormous gratitude for the opportunity they’ve been given. When Denzel Washington became the first Afro-American male since Sidney Poitier to win the Best Actor Oscar, he lifted his eyes toward heaven and gave thanks to God first. In the greatest spotlight of all, with the world watching, he did not focus on himself. In that split second we were given a glimpse of what it is that makes Washington the best actor of his generation.* Your attitude is the key: Even if you get hired at your first casting call, you still have to be prepared for a bumpy ride. An acting career is full of ups and downs. Be prepared to go through hell. Never doubt that you have what it takes. Your determination to face such tremendous odds proves that you have what it takes. Maintain a positive attitude when you’re down, and be like Denzel when you’re on top of the world. If you have a passion for acting, if you feel that life would not be worth living if you could not act, you have discovered your life’s vocation. Stay humble and you’ll receive your casting call for film greatness sooner than you think. |
