The Secret of Independent Film Casting Success Print E-mail
Tuesday, 08 May 2007
Here’s the secret of independent film casting success: Stop worrying about what other people think. You’ll fall flat on your face if you do. The sooner you stop worrying about it, the sooner you’ll start achieving your desired goals. These tips can help:

* Focus: Focus on the work, never on yourself. As soon as you begin to doubt yourself, it’s over. You will have to face rejection, embarrassment, and disappointment on the way to independent film casting success. All great actors learn how to deal with rejection and embarrassment, and so can you. What made them great? When people told them they would never be successful, they worked harder and learned how to get better.

* Connect: Acting is about connecting your whole being to your material—your physical, emotional, and mental states must get inside the character. When the camera rolls, you have already become your character. Now more than ever, you must block out everything you’ve ever been through in your life. You must leave it at the door when you walk onto the casting set.

* Discover your mission: Before your next independent film casting call, ask yourself if you have discovered your purpose in life. Acting can be a wonderful way to live out your mission in life—it is a career where you have the potential to inspire millions of people to discover a purpose for their own life. A sense of purpose and mission will shine in you so brightly that it will light up the room when you walk in. It burns away all arrogance, all pride, and all superficiality.

The hard work, dedicated practice, fierce struggles, and painful setbacks are part of the past. You have to leave them at the door. Walk in and don’t look back. Go into your next independent film casting with a sense of purpose for the rest of your life and you’ll get the opportunity your heart desires.
