The most popular and best loved Blue Man Group performances include their unique rendition of ‘I Feel Love’ and the corresponding Blue Man Group I Feel Love video. The Blue Man Group appeared at the Royal Variety Performance in Cardiff in 2005 and received very favorable reviews for their performance of ‘I Feel Love’ with Katherine Jenkins, a celebrated mezzo-soprano on vocals.
The creation of a Blue Man Group version of Donna Summer’s original recording of ‘I Feel Love’, popular in the late ‘70’s and early ‘80’s disco and techno music age, presented the Blue Man Group with a unique but welcome challenge to re-record as an acoustic version. Recreating the techno sound attained for the Donna Summer’s recording using sophisticated and entirely synthesized backing track recording methods with instruments uniquely crafted from common materials and struck with familiar objects as according to Blue Man Group musical instrument design guides initially presented a problem. However, the problem was quickly solved through the use of Tubulums. Tubulums are musical instrument constructed of 4” PVC Pipe with cardboard or rubber covering the ends which are hit with drumsticks to produce a unique similar in sound quality to a synthesizer. The Blue Man Group I Feel Love video features the legendary Blue Men at an aluminum 1950’s trailer style diner with a lively brunette waitress in pig tails and horn rimmed glasses. The lyrics to of the Blue Man Group I Feel Love video are seemingly sung by the waitress who serves apparently scrumptious milkshakes to the appreciative and delighted Blue Men. This leads to a series of fantasy scenes in the Blue Man Group I Feel Love video, which include ketchup and mustard spin-art creations, psychedelic stage performances and lots of toilet paper!
