All About Poker Chip Sets Print E-mail
Monday, 13 August 2007
Poker players often choose to purchase poker chip sets.  Poker chip sets are available with a wide range of options. Consumers looking to purchase poker chip sets must first decide the type of poker chip they wish to purchase.  Cheap plastic poker chips are available at local discount stores.  These poker chip sets are sold as packaged and do not offer any purchase options.  More expensive poker chips sets are sold with ABS composite plastic poker chips, clay poker chips or, occasionally, ceramic poker chips.  Additionally, each type of poker chip is available with different designs.

Another factor to be considered when purchasing poker chip sets is whether the chips should be customized.  Customer imprinting is available for an additional charge at some retailers.  Custom printed poker chip sets are generally composed of plastic poker chips.

After choosing a type and design of poker chip, shoppers looking at poker chip sets must decide upon the quantity of poker chips they wish to purchase.  Poker chip sets are most often sold in quantities of 300, 500 and 1,000 although some retailers offer poker chip sets in other sizes.  A set of 300 poker chips is perfect for three or four players but a larger group will require more chips.  Poker chip sets containing 500 chips will work fine for games of up to eight players.  Higher quantity poker chip sets or multiple sets are needed for larger games.

Once the type of poker chip and quantity of chips have been decided it is time to select a case.  Poker chip sets are most often sold with aluminum cases or wooden cases.  Poker chip sets containing 1000 chips or more are sold in clear plastic tournament style carrying cases.

Most retailers sell poker chip sets with pre-determined quantities of each chip color.  Poker chip sets contain poker chips in white, red, blue, green and black.  A 300 chip prepackaged set is sold with 100 white chips and 50 each of the remaining colors.  A similar distribution is maintained in larger sets.  Some retailers allow customers to determine their own quantities.  This works well for players wanting to add on to existing sets.

Taking the time to investigate the options available in poker chip sets is worthwhile but not required.  After all, it’s just a game.  Right?
