The Essentials Of Successful Email Marketing Print E-mail
Thursday, 28 June 2007
One of the cheapest and best ways to market your product or service is email marketing. Research has shown that on average a customer will buy your product after every seven emails sent. It may turn out that a customer may buy the product advertised the first time they are sent an email, but in all likelihood you will make higher sales if you send mail to them a few more times.

Good email campaigns which are generally successful always incorporate one or more of the following methods.

1. They tend to offer free gifts or services free to those who subscribe to them. This is something that gets the maximum responses and helps build a good email list for future mailings while showcasing you as a person who offers good deals. The key to doing this is to do it without actually using words like ‘free’, ‘no cost’ and ‘money’ which can get your email thrown straight into the junk mail box of the subscriber and he or she may never see it.

2. Email marketing works best when you use short, crisp sentences rather than long paragraphs. Well scripted emails also pique the curiosity of the reader. Try and keep your mail content short and to-the-point. This looks neater, and readers appreciate your being concise and not wasting their time.

3. It is also important to use the right subject line for your mail as this is the primary reason that will tempt the reader to open it at all. Do a bit of research here.

4. Always remember not to over-email your customers. Giving a weekly gap or maybe once every four days is fine. At the same time, don’t give too long a gap. They may not recall you then.

5. Try and personalize the email with the first name of the reader. This can be easily done if you use a good auto-responder.

6. Remember to use nice pictures or graphics if you can – a picture speaks a thousand words sometimes if it is the right one.

7. Send mails to people who are likely to find it relevant. If you want to sell something available only in say New York, you can send emails to those living only in and around that city.

The truth is that the email marketing industry is growing leaps and bounds. Industry estimates show that US firms are spending more than $400 million every year alone on using e-mails as a marketing tool. This has happened because it is possible to target clients (both old and new) via this medium which are most likely to buy the product or service you are offering.
