While most people want to be able to have a good dog that is well behaved and good mannered, hunting dogs need to go a step further. In these cases, hunting dog training is more involved than other types of training that a dog may become involved with learning and performing. For the most part, the biggest difference between house dogs and dogs that are pets as compared to hunting dogs would be the level of what needs to be learned and the premise of what needs to be learned by the dog.
When it comes to hunting, different capabilities are more appreciated and applicable when compared to the skills and traits of a house dog, simply because the needs vary between the owners. While it is possible to have a house dog that is also a hunting dog, many people are not comfortable with mixing the two. While they love their hunting dog, they may not also allow it to be a house dog for fear that it will lose part of the edge that makes it such a good hunting dog. They should still be treated with love, kindness and respect so that they know that they are doing a good job and that they are appreciated and loved by their owner.Training for hunting dogs will typically rely more on their sense of smell. Owners may hide certain things for them to find in order to test their sense of smell. Also necessary to work on is the dog’s retrieval skills. These are the main things that need to be molded in the dog in order to make it a functional and utilized hunting dog. For the most part, hunting dogs are very eager to please their owners and it is important to show them love throughout the training and usage processes in order to make sure they stay happy and devoted. |
